Successful Caulking in 4 Easy Steps

If you decide to caulk your windows yourself, you’ll want to be well prepared. Follow these steps for quality results!

1

Inspect

Make a visual inspection of the existing caulking to detect signs of wear (mould, tears, etc.) that may confirm air or water infiltration. Indoors, you can put a burning candle in front of the caulking area to check for draughts. Spider webs are also a good indicator.

2

Clean

The caulking area must be thoroughly cleaned to ensure maximum adhesion. Using a blade or scraper, remove the damaged caulking as needed. You may also need to replace some parts of the window frame, especially if it is wood. We can help you with any parts that need to be replaced!

3

Prep

Gather all the necessary materials (caulking gun, etc.) and cut the end of the caulking cartridge. You can break the protective film with a long nail.

4

Apply

Hold the caulking gun at a right angle, lightly squeeze the trigger while following the caulking line.
