Answers to Your Questions About Window Repair

Thanks to Constructions Réno-Fenêtres' full range of services, your windows will last a long time! We've gathered here the answers to the most frequently asked questions about repairing and refurbishing your windows.

  • Why Should I Caulk My Windows?

Caulking prevents water infiltration in your walls, which can cause significant damage to your home. It also keeps cold air from getting in, which lowers your heating costs.

  • How Long Does Caulking Last?

Caulking done by a professional can last up to ten years. That said, it's recommended to have it inspected regularly to make sure it hasn't developed any cracks or tears.

  • Can My Damaged Windows Be Repaired?

Yes, windows can be repaired. Damaged components can be replaced, including thermal glass, mechanisms, hardware, weatherstripping, and more, depending on the condition and type of window.

  • Can Foggy Thermal Glass Be Replaced?

Yes. Thermal glass can be replaced on wood, PVC, or aluminum windows. We offer regular, energy-efficient, tinted, triple-pane glass, and even glass with integrated tile.

  • When Should You Replace the Thermal Glass in Your Windows?

When you notice condensation or a whitish haze between the two panes, the seal has broken and needs to be replaced. This problem doesn't just affect appearance; it also reduces the window's energy efficiency.

  • Do You Need to Replace the Entire Window When the Glass Is Foggy?

No. In the vast majority of cases, you only need to replace the faulty glazing. This is a much more affordable solution than a full window replacement, and more durable than defogging.

  • What Types of Glass Do You Offer for Thermal Unit Replacement?

We offer several options to suit your needs: regular glass, energy-efficient glass (Low-E with argon gas), triple-pane glass, tinted glass, glass with integrated tile, and custom shapes. Applicable to PVC, wood, and aluminum windows.

  • How Do I Know If My Cranks Need to Be Replaced?

If your crank is hard to turn, spins freely, or no longer opens or closes the window properly, it's time to take action. A faulty mechanism can also compromise the window's seal.

  • Do You Have Parts for Older Windows?

Yes. We carry hardware parts compatible with mechanisms from the past 50 years, including slides, cranks, folding handles, and locks. No matter the age of your windows, we most likely have the part you need.

  • What Is a Maintenance Plan and Who Is It For?

Our maintenance plans are designed for homeowners who want to protect their crank windows for the long term. They include a complete annual inspection and, depending on the plan chosen, the replacement of parts and thermal units. Contact us to find the plan that suits your needs.
